 | Hello, my name is Kay (K. Turple) and I'm a Canadian artist. I currently reside in Ontario with my husband and our pets (3 dogs and a parrot). I come from a family full of artistic talent. Needle felting is something I learned just a year ago, but wool has quickly become my favourite medium to work with! I have also been sculpting in polymer clay for years. I've always had a strong passion for animals, especially dogs, and could never live without them in my life. I truly enjoy combining my love of animals with my love of art!
I love to do commissions! I know how important it can be to have keepsakes to remember our pets by when they are gone. I love being able to create miniature versions of customers dogs and cats. It gives me such pleasure to bring comfort to owners whose pets have passed, and joy to owners whose pets are still living. I love to create dogs and cats as tiny as 1:12 dollhouse scale, but I can also work in a larger scale if preferred. Needle felting is the process of taking raw wool roving and using a special barbed needle to sculpt it into shape. The sculpting is done by poking the wool fibers thousands of times until they interlock and felt together. This process is extremely time-consuming, and each dog or cat sculpture normally takes 10 - 25 hours to create. However, I feel the end result is worth the time and effort!
