I am Kathleen Nydam an artist from Cape Cod in Massachusetts, U.S.A. I have worked in crayon, pencil, charcoal, watercolors and oil. In 1972, my introduction to the Fiber Arts was a six-week crash course in carding wool. I love wool, but it was not until October of 2006 that I began needle felting.
I call my works "need em's" I needle em. They are practical pieces and someone is bound to need em. If they were only to put a smile on someone's face, they would serve their purpose. However, I give them a dual purpose as often as possible. They can be decorative as well as functional. I enjoy needling fluffs of wool into my own designs to make pincushions of all types and sizes. Some hold a thimble cozy. Some have armature and some do not. I love to see them find a good home. When they do, I am prepared to allow them back one time free for them to be refreshed. All that would be required of their owner is to pay shipping costs. I will clean and needle the little one and send him straight home again. I live and work in a smoke free environment. I am sorry to say this revitalization program will not work for the cat toys for obvious reasons. After all, the cat will attack the catnip-filled toys beyond recognition.
