I started needle felting in December, 2007. I own an alpaca farm with 15 Suri alpacas, so have an endless supply of fiber. I was looking for something unique to make with my fiber. I've learned to spin and can knit and crochet and have tried wet felting. As my first attempt, I needle felted a snowman and was hooked!! In searching the internet, I found very few needle felted alpacas so I've been making them ever since. I have a little herd of alpacas made with white, beige, fawn and brown natural colors. Plus, I've sculpted them in several positions standing, nursing, grazing, and kushed in sizes ranging from 3" to 7" tall. All are my own original creations. I use wool batting for the core because it's much easier to shape than Suri fiber, which is very, very slippery. Then I cover the "skeleton" with my fiber. I use photographs of my live alpacas as models. Thank you, Deanna Britton, Benson, VT www.snowflake-farms.com
