Wool Comes Alive

Bio

Wool Comes AliveWelcome! My name is Jen Breitbach and one of my great joys is to hand make soulful creations that inspire and delight.

I discovered the art of needle felting in 2007 and fell in love with it immediately. Wool magically retains its vitality, which is held in each sculpture when it's done. It has been so fun to imagine, design and create what you see in my shop. I use locally dyed wool whenever possible and allow the creations to unfold in a very open and fluid way. I enjoy paying great attention to detail, and guiding the wool with a careful, loving hand. And I always dote on each creation as I make it.

Two great inspirations for my work are the natural world and the Waldorf tradition. When I make animals and flowers, I keep a field guide close at hand to help capture the essence of the living creature. My background as a naturalist helps with this greatly. My dolls, toys, and play sets are Waldorf inspired, with a little unique flavor of my own. The faces are featureless to ignite the imagination of the child or adult enjoying them, and the wool feels plush, warm, and natural in the hand.

It is my great hope that the magic of our world comes through in my art.
